So, it’s New Year’s Eve, and I’m sitting in an airport waiting to fly back home. The Guild is all over the place this holiday season, but we’ll be back together again soon enough. As I sit here waiting to board, I thought now would be a good time to reflect back on the past year, where we went, and where we’ll go next.
2018 was a pretty good year for the Guild. We played a lot of games – and I mean a LOT of games. We had another successful ExtraLife marathon, where we were able to not only meet our fundraising goal but go beyond it. We did out first round of video game karaoke (which can be found over on our YouTube channel) and that went well enough that we’re excited to do more
It was also a year of learning for the Guild. We made some mistakes. We were overly ambitious with some of our projects, and haven’t made much headway with them. We learned a lot about time management, sadly at the expense of projects like the Cooking Papa videos – which we are still working to get done, more than a little past the proposed deadline. We’re sorry about that. We’re also getting a better understanding of what we can and can’t make happen right now amidst full time jobs and families. We’ve learned when to push through with something, and when to step back and admit that now might not be the time.
So, with our successes and our learning experiences, where does that put us in terms of the upcoming year? Well, you can count on more games – a lot more. We’ll be working through and finishing our new voice acting project (Chrono Trigger! Woo!). We are hoping to implement what we’ve learned about time management and projects to create some new fun things in the coming year. We’re also hoping to be a lot better about social updates and more blog posts (and when I say “we,” I mean Josh and I, because Leah has been working this blog like its her personal runway – and we love her for it – and Brad’s Guild contract explicitly states “I write when I feel like it”).
Well, my flight is starting to board, and that seems like a good place to wrap up. From all of us at the Guild to all of you out there, gamer and non-gamer alike, we wish you a prosperous and adventure filled New Year. May you rack up those achievements, and may we all get the best ending.
